The AYA JK Cement Architect of the Year Award (JK AYA) is a prestigious recognition instituted in 1990 by JK Cement Ltd., inspired by Mr. Yadupati Singhania, Chairman & Managing Director of JK Cement. The award aims to inspire architects to raise the standards of architecture in the country and beyond. It is an internationally acclaimed award accepting participation from architects across India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and other countries. The award is presented once every three years and honors outstanding projects with a special focus on green architecture and socially responsible design.
Architects or firms from eligible countries can submit nominations at any time, and the selection involves detailed evaluation including a ten-point write-up justifying the green and sustainable features of their projects. The award covers various architecture categories such as medical and educational buildings, hospitality, urban planning, heritage rehabilitation, affordable housing, religious architecture, adaptive reuse, and more.
Winners of JK AYA gain international recognition, with ceremonies often held in India or abroad, attended by prominent figures in architecture. Bangladesh has proudly had several winners including architects and firms recognized for innovative and sustainable design contributions. The award not only honors architectural excellence but also promotes environmentally conscious and culturally sensitive design practice in South Asia.
